Wakefield Partnership for Initial Teacher Training (WPITT) is a partnership of Wakefield schools delivering high quality employment based Teacher Training to meet local needs. WPITT is always interested in hearing from graduates who can deliver shortage subjects* to secondary school pupils. Each year we also train a small number of primary teachers and non-shortage subject secondary teachers.
The annual recruitment round for 2009/10 will shortly be underway and we will be accepting new applications from October 2008 for the 2009 cohort .
*Shortage subjects include:
Maths, Science, Design Technology, Food Technology, ICT, Music, MFL, and RE.
GTP is an example of an Employment-Based Route (EBR) into teaching. EBRs are teacher-training programmes that allow trainees to work in a school and follow an individual training programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This programme suits mature, well-qualified people who can quickly take on teaching responsibilities and who need to earn a living while they train.
Following a successful OfSTED Inspection Wakefield became a fully accredited provider of Initial Teacher Training in August 2006 and is now able to Award QTS to successful candidates. WPITT is given an annual allocation of GTP places by the Training and Development Agency for schools (TDA). WPITT takes responsibility for designing and delivering the training programme. As part of this training programme, WPITT provides a wide range of training opportunities for WPITT partners and trainees.
