Administration

Course Application

Application for courses can be completed in five ways:

1)  Whole School Application
     Whole school application when the school applies for all courses on one form.

2)  Individual Application Forms
     This is when each individual applicant applies on separate forms.

 3)  Electronic Application Form
      This is when the applicant emails their request to the CPD team directly from the
      Go Wild website.

4)  Telephone Bookings
     Schools are able to make telephone bookings.  A telephone booking form is filled
     out by the CPD Team at Woolley Hall.  Schools need not send an application form
     following a telephone booking

 5)  E-mail
      Schools can email a list of course applications to cpd@wakefield.gov.uk, clearly
      stating the course reference number and title, together with the delegates’ full name.

Applications should be submitted in one of the ways listed above.  Completed application forms should be returned to the CPD team at least two weeks prior to the date of the course.  If schools have missed this deadline for applications they should contact the CPD team at Woolley Hall by telephone who will do their best to accommodate them onto courses.

It is important that all those interested in attending courses (however close to the date of the course) apply through the CPD team at Woolley Hall. This will enable us to ensure that adequate course materials are prepared and refreshments are available.

Acceptance Letters

All applicants will receive a letter to confirm their acceptance on a course.  Where possible this will be done at least 20 days in advance of the course date.

If for any reason the course is postponed all delegates will be notified by telephone or letter.

In the event of a place on a course being unavailable, because a course is oversubscribed (and in most cases a repeat course will be offered) or if there are not enough applications to make a course financially viable, you will be notified in writing at least 2 weeks prior to the course date.

Substitutions
It is acceptable for another member of staff to replace the original applicant if they are unable to attend.  On course registers original applicants’ names should be deleted and replaced with the substitute on the day

Course Cancellations

Cancellations of places on courses will be accepted up to two weeks prior to the start of the course with no charge being incurred.  Clearly, there may be exceptional and unforeseen health or other reasons, which may cause a course member to withdraw their place on a course within the two-week deadline.  If this is the position, the school should contact the CPD team by telephone, followed by the reasons in writing.

Unfortunately there may be times when we have to cancel a course at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances.  Should this happen we will endeavour to offer you an alternative date.

Course Fees

Course fees include premises charges, tutoring time, subsistence, course materials and administration.

The cost of each course is given along with the course details.  Lunch is provided on full day courses and the cost is included in the course fee.

Non-chargeable courses are entirely supported by specific grants or funding.

Course Fees for 2008/2009
Full price CPD course
Full day       £130 (£220 for a two day course)
Half day      £75
Twilight      £45

Please note that non-Wakefield LA schools cannot benefit from a non-chargeable course.  They are welcome to apply for a course - however the full price CPD rate will be charged.

Bespoke CPD

Where schools commission CPD on a bespoke basis, an agreement between the school and the service is drawn up.  The current charges are £450 per day.

This agreement includes:
   -  a negotiated statement of intended outcomes;
   -  times;
   -  venues;
   -  resource requirements and who provides them;
   -  procedures for evaluating the CPD;
   -  cost of the CPD provision.

The school is not charged for:
   -  The negotiation meeting;
   -  Preparation time;
   -  Travelling time.

Members of the service will discuss the school’s requirements with the Headteacher or appropriate member of staff.  An agreement form will be completed and forwarded to the CPD team for processing.

CPD invoices the school after the activity has taken place.

If the school wishes to use the Woolley Hall as a venue for the bespoke activity then there will be additional charges for subsistence.  Details are available from the CPD Manager, Woolley Hall.

Invoices

Schools are invoiced termly for their attendance on CPD courses.  Headteachers will receive a statement attached to the invoice listing all the courses that their staff have attended.

Each statement clearly shows:

   -  course reference;
   -  course title;
   -  name of delegate who attended
   -  whether the delegate was accepted/rejected/course cancelled or apologies received
       from the delegate;
   -  fee for each course;
   -  total payable for all courses listed for each individual term.

Any queries regarding invoices should de directed to the CPD Manager at Woolley Hall.
Course Evaluation

Course evaluation falls into two separate areas:

• delivery; and
• impact on the pupils

We take delegates’ evaluation of our CPD provision seriously, taking note of comments and responding wherever it is necessary.  Additionally, CPD is evaluated through follow-up work in school, e.g. lesson observation.

Complaints

If a delegate has a complaint about a course, then it should be referred in the first instance to the course tutor on the day.

If the issue remains unresolved, then the school should refer the matter to the CPD team.

If the complaint cannot be settled then the school should write to:

Service Director Schools and Lifelong Learning
Family Services
County Hall
Wakefield
WF1 2QL

who will undertake to make an initial response to all complaints within 5 working days.
