Introduction

Welcome to the 2008-2009 Training and Professional Development Programme.  CPD plays a key role in supporting our shared goal of improving outcomes for children and young people across the district.  We are firmly committed to providing a wide-ranging CPD programme that responds to the changing needs of individuals and schools, and hope that the information provided here will enable you to identify the right opportunities for you and your colleagues. 

In 2007/8 we provided over 470 courses attended by more than 9500 colleagues.  Those attending Wakefield courses rate them highly:

The 2008/9 programme offers activities that are suitable for a wide range of colleagues including:

• teachers
• newly qualified teachers
• graduate trainees
• school support staff  
• co-ordinators
• leadership teams
• advanced skills teachers
• deputy headteachers
• headteachers

Courses provided are in response to:

• priorities identified in the District’s Children & Young People’s Plan (CYPP);
• central government initiatives;
• locally determined priorities that are arrived at through discussion with school representatives;
• OFSTED reports;
• statutory requirements.

In addition bespoke work can be arranged in schools to meet the needs of individuals, small or whole staff groups at competitive rates.
