Application Procedure for Instrumental Tuition

If you would like your child to receive instrumental lessons at school, the first person to contact is the Headteacher in Primary Schools or the Head of Music in Secondary School.

They will be able to advise you which instruments are taught in school and whether there is a waiting list for lessons.  They will also be able to liaise with the instrumental teacher to determine when the next vacancies for new pupils will arise.

Unless there is a waiting list, instrumental teachers will sometimes visit classes when they have places available and demonstrate their instruments to the pupils.  Those pupils interested will take a letter home giving details of instrumental lessons and will be asked to bring a note or reply slip back from parents to confirm that they are interested.

Once this has been received, the instrumental teacher will meet with the pupil to assess their suitability. The pupils who are suited for learning that instrument will then be given a brochure 'Opportunities in Music' to complete, along with information in purchasing an instrument.  The 'Opportunities in Music' brochure must then be sent in the post to Wakefield Music Services.  When this is received lessons can commence.

If you would prefer to complete your application form electronically please complete the form below and return it to music@wakefield.gov.uk.

Please note that unless you have been given an 'Opportunities in Music' brochure by the instrumental teacher your application will not be valid.
