Introduction

The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 1995 were made under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and were produced to consolidate and simplify the law by applying a single set of requirements for reporting certain specified incidents.

Although the regulations relate to employees, the Council requires the reporting of accidents to non employees to be undertaken in the same manner.

The reports provide us with data that is used to indicate where and how risks arise and to identify trends. This allows us to target our activities effectively and to advise schools on strategies to help prevent injuries, ill health and accidental loss.
