ICT Strategy to 2010

Education remains one of the Government's top priorities.  It is essential to maintaining a vibrant economy in the UK.  The effective use of ICT, e-Government and e-Learning can help transform the quality of local services.

The ICT Learning Strategy to 2010 builds upon the previous Strategies published in 2000 and 2002 and links into the Council’s “eServices Strategy 2005 to 2010”

We have achieved the aims we outlined in our ICT Strategy in 2002:

  • All schools, libraries, museums and galleries, and community learning centres are connected by broadband technologies to each other, the Yorkshire and Humberside Grid for Learning, the National Education Network and the Internet, enabling access to high quality, multimedia-rich curriculum resources;
  • New technologies such as interactive whiteboards are commonplace within classrooms;
  • Video conferencing facilities are widely available and pilots exploring the pedagogical benefits are underway;
  • Our rich heritage of local resources have been digitised and made available to the wider community; and,
  • Members of the public can use the facilities available to access Council services electronically.

Having achieved our stated aims from 2002 we must now look to the future and our strategy to 2010 outlines how we will ensure we are able to harness this technology thereby enabling all learners across our district to benefit from the tremendous opportunities the technology offers.
