Wakefield Parent Partnership Service

The aim of the Parent Partnership Service is to ensure that parents and carers of children with special educational needs have access to neutral, impartial information and guidance on special educational needs procedures and how children's needs are met in early years settings, schools and LEA.

We provide:

  • advice to all parents of children with special educational needs not only those with a statement;
  • information on the special educational needs processes and procedures;
  • support during meetings;
  • help with preparing letters or reports if needed;
  • help in resolving disputes;
  • access to an Independent Parental Supporter;
  • links with voluntary or self-help organisations;
  • access to a meditation service.

Staff are available to offer advice on the telephone help-line or in person, if requested.

All parents and carers who need extra support have access to an Independent Parental Supporter (IPS).  An IPS could be another parent, someone from a voluntary or support group or a family friend.  IPS volunteers provided by the Parent Partnership Service are trained volunteers, who are independent of the decision making process and the other professionals involved.

We are keen to develop partnerships between parents and carers, schools, the LEA and voluntary organisations and ensure that everyone works together for the benefit of the child.

Wakefield Parent Partnership Service provides a confidential service.  No personal details are passed on without permission.
